Fox Comet… You won’t be disappointed

A rollercoaster couple of months for Fox Comet culminates this weekend with the band heading up to Johannesburg to take part in the finals of the Durex Battle of the Bands competition.

(Fox Comet Facebook Page!) Having won the regional competition, edging out some of the best young South African talent on the way, Fox Comet head to the finals at Cool Runnings (Fourways) determined to give the crowd their best show to date.

Over the last month or so the band has kept busy. Performing alongside the like of Wrestlerish and Reburn, the Comets performed with flair at the Pride festival in Cape Town, rocked out both Kunskafee and Purple Turtle once again, and gave ROAR yet another night to remember!

Looking to make the most of their time in Jo’burg this weekend Fox Comet have set themselves a truly rockstar schedule.

Making the trip up from Cape Town early Friday morning the boys need to check in with Durex as well as hit up Pretoria for an interview with TUKS FM. Performing Friday night in the competition, Saturday sees the lads back to work again – chatting to UJ Radio in the afternoon before giving Jo’burg fans one more look at back2basix that night.

Speaking to Rob (Coutts – vocals) and Kyle (Gray – Drums) on Wednesday night the excitement was clear to see. On their way to the penultimate practise at the time, these lads will never be accused of taking anything for granted. Their hearts and souls have been poured into their music over the last 12 months and their fans have loved every minute of it!

With a growing song list – including their new hard hitting track ‘Same Way’ – Fox Comet refuse to stand quietly on the sidelines. The South African music scene is full of fantastic talents… but nothing quite like Fox Comet.

Johannesburg get ready for your first look at ‘Soldier’, ‘Across the Ocean’, See the World’, ‘Behind the door’ and ‘We don’t work’… you won’t be disappointed…

…and it certainly won’t be the last you hear of them.

Fox Comet storm into Jo’burg Finals!

A night never to be forgotten…leaving the crowd screaming for more… almost resulting in a riot… Fox Comet prevailed at the Cape Town Durex Ultimate Battle of the Bands and now, with their fans behind them, will head to Johannesburg for the competitions finals.

Up against two fantastic bands, DeathLikeDaisies and Autumn of August, Fox Comet drew lucky No.3 on the night and simply blew the packed crowd away with their performance.

With their faithful donning Fox Comet Merchandise the band took the stage full of nerves and excitement. Without a doubt the biggest night of their young career so far, the boys gave the gig everything they had during their 30 minute set, leaving nothing to chance.

Their set over, Fox Comet joined the other two bands on the sidelines and waited for the verdict. The Fox-Hounds were relentless with their cheering, drowning out the efforts of fans of both DeathLikeDaisies and Autumn of August, and leaving the organisers with no alternative but to award Fox Comet the Cape Town crowd.

‘Across the Ocean’, ‘Fight’, ‘Behind the Door’ or ‘See the World’ – every track on the night had Mercury Live on its feet. Stephane, Nick, Kyle and Rob bring an energy to their shows that is unrivalled around the country… luckily now for Jo’burg music fans they’ll get a chance to see it for themselves!

Unrelenting in their cheers for an encore Fox Comet’s fans were rewarded for their passion when, for the first time in the competitions history, the organisers insisted that the winners perform one more for the masses!

Speaking afterwards Nick was nearly speechless… “It’s awesome hey… awesome…”

Kyle meanwhile, speaking on stage after the announcement, thanks all the fans who had cheered so amazingly for every Fox Comet cord.

“This is thanks to all you guys,” said the drummer.

“This is amazing, thanks so much for everything – we love you guys!”

The final of the national competition will take place at Cool Runnings in Johannesburg on the 2 April and will see bands from all around the country battling it out for the Durex Ultimate Battle of the Bands title.

Up the Creek – Fox Comet to arrive!

A lot can change in a year.

Just over twelve months ago there was no such thing as Fox Comet… there was no ‘Soldier’, ‘See the World’ or even ‘Across the Ocean’…

And yet now here we are, on the verge of one epic weekend and the true coming of age of Cape Town’s fastest rising band.
We are heading.... UP THE CREEK

We are heading.... UP THE CREEK

This weekend sees Fox Comet join the likes of Flat Stanley, the Dirty Skirts, the Plastics, Taxi Violence and the Rudimentals on the stage at the legendary Up the Creek festival.

One of just three debut bands, the Comets head to the Breede River ready to prove once and for that they a force they are to be reckoned with in the South African music scene.

Of course getting to this point has not been easy for the Cape Town Rockers. A lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into the last twelve months.

From their debut gig at Mercury Live last July, to last weekend’s packed-out performance at Purple Turtle alongside Captain Stu – Rob Coutts, Nick Catto, Kyle Gray and Stephane Courneloup have made massive strides in recent times and enjoyed every single second of it.

It’s not just the performances which makes Fox Comet work though… days worth of rehearsals, meetings, endless hours on the phone chasing ‘the next big gig’, merchandise… all along the boys have taken it on themselves to drive their dream, relying on their commitment and talent to see them through.

This weekend’s gig represents a big moment for the band. It’s about playing music, showcasing ‘their sound’ and, most of all, ensuring that the 2000 fans out at the Up the Creek festival have a party they will not soon forget.

While they’ve done well to come this far in such a short space of time the journey is by no means done – speak to any one of the band members and you’ll soon realise this is just the beginning. But what a beginning! And what a stage to celebrate it…

Up the Creek 2010 – Fox Comet comes crashing down on the Breede!

Unbelievable crowd rock Purple Turtle!

Friday (January 22nd) saw Fox Comet, Captain Stu and Red Huxley draw a massive crowd to the legendary Purple Turtle in Long Street.

All three bands, each bringing their own unique vibe, served up the best they had in them and ensured that everyone who made the trip to Long Street left it happy!

The event, spearheaded by Fox Comet’s own Kyle Gray drew well over 200 people and was a roaring success.

Speaking afterward Kyle said he was really pleased with how the night had gone and stoked to have had such an awesome gig with two very cool bands.

“It was sick. Red Huxley and Captain Stu – it was such a good jam and the place was packed.

“There were over 200 people through the doors!”

Nick Catto meanwhile was thrilled the band got the chance to try some of their new music and thinks that 2010 is the year when the world will really start to see what Fox Comet is all about.

“It was cool to play the new tracks.

“I think we’re really starting to get ‘our sound.’ We’ve got a lot of variety now and it was really good to play them all in front of a big crowd.”

Looking back on the gig itself, Nick said it was crazy at times with the jam-packed crowd so close to the stage.

“Bro the people in front were right there, the crowd was crazy. At times we were struggling to hear ourselves!”

Fox Comet’s new tracks ’Fight’ and ‘Behind the door ‘ are just two of the tracks which the Cape Town funk-rockers will be performing at the Up the Creek Festival next weekend (Feb 5-7).
